State Estimation Approach for Optimal Placement of Phasor Measurement Unit Using Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm

Abstract


Phasor Measurement Units (PMU) are rapidly becoming more popular in power system. Compared to conventional one, PMU has synchrophasor technology and it gives the measurement of the dynamic behaviour of the system. Real time monitoring operations are done by using PMU. The objective of this research is to locate the PMU optimally to observe the parameters of the power system network by using Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm. For this analysis, state estimation and load flow method is important. The estimated value is obtained by Weighted Least Square (WLS) method using MATLAB. The WLS and ABC are applied for the test case and its results are validated. From the simulated result, the number of PMU locations isreduced and it placed optimally.
