Application of PSI based Desirability-Grey Analysis for the Optimization of Milling Performance Characteristics

Mr. T. Victor Babu, Mr. Ch. Maheswara Rao

Abstract

The present work aims to set the optimal combination of process parameters which yields the desired multiple performance characteristics at a time. Taguchi’s standard L27 Orthogonal Array (OA) has been employed for making the slots on AA8011 material. Speed, feed and depth of cut were taken as the controllable parameters and Material Removal Rate (MRR) and Surface Roughness (Ra) were considered as the output characteristics. A hybrid MCDM/MADM method called Preference selection index (PSI) combined with desirability grey analysis was used for the optimization of multiple responses.  From the optimization results, the optimal combination of process parameters is achieved at speed of 4500 rpm, feed of 150 mm/min and depth of cut of 0.5 mm respectively.
