Abstract

Mathematical modeling of forced vibration of a piezoelectric circular rod is studied using three-dimensional theory of piezoelectricity. Potential functions are introduced to uncouple the equations of motion, electric conduction equations. The surface area of the rod is coated by a perfectly conducting gold material. The frequency equations are obtained for longitudinal and flexural modes of vibration and are studied numerically for PZT-4 ceramic rod. The computed non-dimensional frequencies for the circular rod with and without coating are presented in the form of dispersion curves.
