Abstract

The braking system has a crucial role for safety of passenger and riding quality of the vehicle. Force analysis of front brake has been done in this paper. The braking force mainly depends on the normal reaction on the wheel and the co-efficient of friction between tire and the road surface. Thus, the amount of braking force required to halt the vehicle with minimum stopping distance, is based on the load of front tyre of a bike. Optimum braking force on the disc helps in attaining the minimum vehicle stopping distance. In addition to that it also helps in preventing sliding. The time required to stop the bike also can be obtained from stopping distance. This paper throws light on the selection criterion of caliper system depending on the braking force.
