STAIR CLIMBING WHEELCHAIR

D K Sridhar Rao, Abhishek Kumar Dey

Abstract

This project is designed analysis and fabrication of wheel chair which have a locomotion unit
which enables the chair to climb stairs along with normal movement on structured paths. It
consists of a frame, a seat and a four-bar linkage mechanism that connects frame and seat.
These linkages move and adjusts the body to prevent the wheelchair from over movement,
uncontrolled steering and provide comfort to the occupier during different motions.
Algebraic synthesis and designed analysis is done on the mechanisms, used in the
wheelchair. This model is also consisting of motors, epicyclic Sun-Planet gear arrangements
which enables locomotion unit, to come into play.
