Identification of Reduction of Power Production in 50 Years Old Panauti Hydropower Plant in Nepal

Abstract


A study of Panauti Hydropower is envisaged to get a detailed exploration about the Panauti hydropower including its components, history, existing condition and the problems of the hydropower.

Hydropower stations are set up with an aim of utilizing the water resources for the generation of power using the current of water. Various elements are responsible for the effective running of the hydropower. The 50 years old Panauti hydropower project who designed annual generation of 6.97 GWh is hardly now able to produce 600 KW per hour, Panauti hydropower is in dilapidated condition and not being able to produce the amount of energy it should have and began declining since 15 years ago and is still in decreasing order.

The hydropower should not be closed rather the Government should pay a keen attention in maintained and repairing of the machines said the local people of Khopasi and need to preserve as a historical asset of Nepal as Panauti hydropower project is one of the oldest hydropower project in Nepal.
