Muttahir Hussain, Shujaat Hussain Buch

Abstract

Earthquake vulnerability study is carried out in old city of Srinagar. Buildings are selected based on their age, usage, structure, soil type and distribution. The ‘Seismic Vulnerability Predictor (SVP)’ adopted for buildings surveyed is ‘Total RVS Score (S)’. A‘Cut-Off RVS Score’ is determined based on the best subsets for that range of the score. Results of the survey show that 55% of buildings (Un-reinforced andreinforced masonry and partial framed buildings) are extremely vulnerable to strong earthquakes. Other types of framed buildings have variable level of vulnerability. Structural in-consistency of the buildings is also examined guiding in vulnerability indexing.
