Modify Bituminous Blinder using Plastic Waste

Abstract

Bitumen is widely used product in road construction. Flexible roads are constructed to withstand heavy traffic and severe weather conditions over long time. Here, it is mandatory to design specially engineered bitumen mix. In this paper, bitumen is mixed with waste plastic
to alter the bitumen mix characteristics. This study evaluated the properties of conventional bitumen and bitumen modified with various proportions of plastics. The laboratory results showed that modified bitumen with waste polymers improved variation under high temperature range. Modified bitumen has led to alteration in determined physical properties such as elasticity, viscosity, tensile strength, high and low temperature vulnerability and binding properties.
