A Study to Assess the Health Problems Encountered by Elderly People in a Selected Area of Rustampura View to Develop Health Education Module, Waghodia, Vadodara, Gujarat

Abstract


A study was conducted on topic “A study to assess the health problems encountered by elderly people in a selected area of Rustampura view to develop health education module, Vadodara”. Objectives of the study: To assess the health problems of the elderly persons. To analyze the relationship between the prevalence of health problems in elderly persons with selected socio demographic variables. To develop health education module on geriatric care. Materials and methods: Using convenient sampling. The instruments used for data collection were structured knowledge questionnaire. The data obtained was tabulated and analyzed in terms of objectives of the study and inferential statistics. A pre-experimental evaluative study was conducted using one group pre-test post-test research design. Result: Significant relationship was observed between prevalence of health problems and their age (X2 = 29.88), sex (X2 = 14.34), educational status (23.73), marital status (X2 = 36.68), type of family (X2 = 16.93), present status of the elderly person (X2 = 10.99), occupation held (X2 = 18.88), body built (X2 = 74.46), way of making (X2 = 61.51) and health status (X2 = 76.62) and hence the research hypothesis H1, H2, H3, H4, H6, H7, H8, H9, H10, H11 were retained. Insignificant relationship was between the family income and the prevalence of health problem and hence research hypothesis H5 was rejected.
