Fuzzy Control based Three Phase Four Switch Inverter for Brushless DC Motor

Abstract


Brushless DC (BLDC) motor drives are preferred for fan applications because of their broader speed variation capability, ease of control and less noise production. Normally Six-Switch Three-Phase Inverters are used in the main circuit of the BLDC drive. In this article, a Four-Switch Three-Phase Inverter controlled by Fuzzy logic is proposed. The open loop system of the BLDC drive, the closed loop system with PI controller and closed loop system with Fuzzy Logic Controller are simulated independently in MATLAB simulink environment. The comparative analyses of the simulation results are presented. The Four-Switch Three-Phase Inverter with Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) reduces the switching losses and the cost of the inverter. It also reduces the complexity of the control algorithms and the interface circuits used to generate the PWM signals. The hardware implementation of closed loop BLDC drive for fan application to control the speed precisely to set reference is also presented.
