A Study to Assess the Attitude of Students Regarding Mobile Internet Addiction in Selected Senior Secondary Schools of Udaipur (Rajasthan) with a View to Develop Information Leaflet Regarding Mobile Internet Addiction
Abstract
India is the second largest online market, ranked only behind china with over 460 million internet users. It is significantly increased in comparison to the previous year’s data. The number of internet users in India is expected to reach 691 million by 2021, said a report by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).The report also discloses that an estimation of 281 Million daily Internet users, in which 182.9 million (62%) access internet daily in urban area, as compared to only 98 million users(53%), in rural India. This study is designed to investigate and assess the attitude of students regarding mobile internet addiction. Data collection was done purposive fully from senior secondary students who are more attracted to smart phones (study tells). The present study was conducted in selected senior secondary school of Udaipur. The samples selected was 80 respondents with informed consent. The respondent’s mean attitude score was 81.70% in positive statements and 76.75% in negative statements and the overall mean attitude score was 79.60% with standard deviation 4.2. Students with 76% had very favorable attitude regarding internet addiction followed by 23% as favorable and 0% as not favorable. Further age, class, and family income had significant association with attitude. There was no significant association between religion, sex, type of family and course with attitude scores.
