Abstract

Satellite network is an essential part in the communication system and the routing protocols involved in such a network plays a crucial role. Such protocol has to be chosen in such a way that it should meet the demand of the ground terminals and provides good efficiency with negligible propagation delay and control overhead. Various protocols have been adopted in satellite networks with distinct throughput and Qos. In this paper, traditional algorithm like Darting, Extended Bellman-Ford and Probabilistic routing protocols are studied along with latest algorithm like Multicast routing protocols, Load Balanced on-demand Routing (LBR), Cross-layer design and Ant-colony optimization based load balancing algorithm. Latest algorithm contributes to the best outcome in today’s requirements of data and video transmission.
