Pavement Maintenance Management System for urban roads in Madurai

K. Priyanka, Ms. T. Karthigai Priya

Abstract

Sustainable development of any country depends upon the type and quantum of road transportation infrastructure provided. In India, the large networks of existing roads, which are built at huge expenses, have started showing signs of distress failure before design period. The pavement maintenance management system (PMMS) is a method used for inspection and determining the pavement condition rating in the study area. In this study, a preliminary survey is conducted from Thanakankulam to Thiruparankundram. HDM-4 is a product instrument created by World Bank for worldwide applications can be adequately used for distinguishing ideal support methodology for roadway asphalts. Further analysis process will be carried out by HDM-4 tool to determine the pavement condition index and its strategies. Implemented to assist the Highway Agencies for establishing realistic levels of funding, and to set levels & Priorities to maximize the effectiveness of expenditure on pavement maintenance activities. Therefore, HDM-4 system has been selected and used in this study due to the wider International Acceptance.
