Effect of Colored Polyvinyl Chloride Reservoirs (PVC) on Algae Growth and Water Quality

O. P. Folorunso

Abstract

Experiments were conducted to determine the impacts of color on algae growth and quality of water stored in multi-colored PVC reservoirs for a specified period of time. Simulations were conducted on a duplicated five water filled colored PVC containers in black, red, blue, transparent, and green, with the ones kept indoor used to justify the impacts of color on algae growth relative to the outdoor containers which were used to monitor the growth as it affects the quality of water. These simulations were monitored and inspected at a seven-day interval for three weeks to observed algae growth and subsequent water quality analysis in comparison to the World Health Organization (WHO). The outdoor observation showed prompt and noticeable response to algae growth except for the black container, which responded similarly when compared to the indoor observation with little or no algae growth activity.
