Role of Nurse in Geriatric Care: A Mini Review

Abstract


As per W.H.O People worldwide are living longer. Today, with the advancement of medical technology and nursing care most people can assume to live into their sixties and beyond. By the year 2050, the world’s population aged 60 years and older is expected to full 2 billion, up since 900 million in 2015. Presently 125 million individuals are aged 80 years or older and it will be almost this many (120 million) living in China alone in 2050, and 434 million people in this age group globally. By 2050, 80% of all older people will live in low- and middle-income countries. Geriatric nurse play vital role in care includes Assessment, Measuring and recording vital signs, Administering medications, Provide diversional therapies, Exercising and massaging patients, Physical & psychological support, Watching for signs of elder abuse, Transporting patients to doctor’s visits and other appointments  & Helping patients with their daily needs, such as bathing, dressing, and using the bathroom.
