Utilization of Granulated blast furnace Slag as effective replacement of fine aggregate in sustainable development of concrete structures
Abstract
Steel industries engendering astronomically immense quantity of slag as by-product in different forms obtained through sundry cooling processes. Present study aimed at to investigate the probability of utilizing Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GBFS) used as fine aggregate in place of natural sand in concrete structures, in order to reduce environmental problems related to aggregate quarrying and waste disposal. In this investigation, design mix of M20 and M25 with w/c ratios of 0.48 and 0.43 respectively, and 0, 10, 30, 50, 70 and 100% replacement of natural sand (NS) by GBFS are considered. The results obtained shows that we can replace natural sand partially up to 70 % by GBFS. Decrement in workability can be maintained by using suitable percentage of plasticizer.
