Smart Transformers: A Review

Neethu M., Dr.R. Senthilkumar

Abstract

Smart transformers now under development potentially could transform the power grid in ways that will make power more dependable, value-efficient and environmentally pleasant and generate power in addition to what they do now, that is just to apply it. This device permits automatic voltage regulation, telemetry and faraway control for energy utilities, allowing its application in smart Grids. The energy grid presently operates one way—energy flows from the application to the consumer--and conventional transformers definitely change voltage from one stage to another. To protect the distribution transformer from severe damage advanced metering infrastructure(AMI) and advanced sensor infrastructure(ASI) is used. These devices are used to monitoring the smart transformers.
