Analysis of weather trends and some evidences of climate change in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh (India)

Siby John, Komal Sharma

This paper presents a trend analysis of monthly precipitation, mean temperature, maximum temperature and minimum temperature over a period between 1901-2016 (116 years). Non-parametric statistical tests called Mann–Kendall test (MK test) has been used for the analysis. The analysis of temperature trends revealed a significant increase during winter and spring seasons; whereas, there is a decreasing trend in temperature of the monsoon season. Analysis of Precipitation showed a decreasing trend in the months of spring from mid-February to march. Also, snowfall trend over the last 35 years showed a fall of -1.3%. The analyses indicated some evidences of impact of climate change in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh (India).
