Performance Evaluation of a Furnace

Bala Divya Potnuru, Sree Sruthi Kannam, Kondapalli Siva Prasad, LSV Prasad

Abstract

The article mainly focuses on the performance evaluation of furnace in a industry. The technique adopted is heat balance which is a means of determining the thermal efficiency of the furnace and comparing the relative values of heat losses. This analysis identifies the areas of inefficiencies (high heat consumption) and estimates the energy saving potential available in various units of the furnace. Thus, implementation of heat balance is a precondition of promoting energy conservation. In view of the rising awareness in regard to the environmental protection and conservation, the future growth in energy sector must consider such concerns in order to develop in a manner which is environmentally proven. The key issues facing a developing country like India which have energy implications are, therefore, rising population, need for economic growth, access to adequate commercial energy supplies and the financial resources needed to achieve this, rational energy pricing regime, improvements in energy efficiency of both the energy supply and consumption.
